What type of flow meter can you install and who can install it?

07/03/2023

In the extensive legislation that has come in recent years regarding registration of manure flows and installation of flow meters, the choice of the type of flow meter is free. As a manure processor, you therefore enjoy freedom when it falls within the predefined conditions.

Conditions set by Code of Good Practice

The Code of Good Practice is already an excellent guide to base your choice on, but you can also rely on QEOS' advice for suitable guidance when choosing flow meters. They must satisfy the following conditions:

  • Flowmeter must record start time and end time of weighing;
  • Have its own unique identification number;
  • Be able to connect to the internet and the Manure Bank to send the manure data and collected data smoothly;
  • Continuous monitoring of the meter and also be able to send an automatic notification in case of errors or deviations.
Two types of flowmeters

In the Code of Good Practice, they mention two types of flow meters that can be used for recording and processing liquid manure flows: the coriolis mass flow meter and the electromagnetic flowmeter.

Auto synchronisation

Following the renewed legislation on manure registration, we at QEOS sat down with several manufacturers to start automating data transfer. Customers who already have an on-board computer and our software could enjoy the new synchronisation free of charge.

Who can install my flowmeters?

Who takes charge of installing the flowmeters is actually also a free choice. This can be the operator himself or an external partner. However, the final responsibility for the necessary installation costs lies with the owner of the fattening installation. Before installing flow meters, the plan and design must be approved by the manure bank. You must provide this plan yourself.
